Verner Panton

Verner Panton (1926-1998) was a fascinating visionary.
The Danish designer and architect was committed to making everyday surroundings more playful and colourful, and through his vibrant expression challenged the very idea of ‘classic Danish design’. The Panthella lamp being a great example hereof.

Panton and light

Verner Panton had an intuitive sense of light and colour, and how the two interacts to shape a space.
Just like his furniture, his lighting designs were equally bold and innovative, and often aesthetically fully integrated into his interior projects – covering the entire ceiling, hidden inside sculptures, or built into the wall.

The first Panthella

Panthella Floor exhibited together with Verner Panton designs.

In 1971 Verner Panton designed the Panthella lamp, which Louis Poulsen then put into production in five vibrant colours and chrome stands as well as white.
The colours, the jazzy structure of the trumpet stand, the synthetic materials, and even the way the lamp itself served as a reflector made it a groundbreaking lighting design.
But despite its boldness, the Panthella offered a comforting warm ambience, demonstrating Panton’s vision of supporting emotional wellbeing through great design.

The Panthella Originals

In the spring of 2026 Louis Poulsen re-introduced the five original Panthella colours, bringing back the original essence of Panton’s innovation. The collection features coloured opal shades and chrome stand.
